Looking After Our Members
All Hillingdon Slipstreamers Coaches are CRB checked, qualified in First Aid and have attended a Level 1 Child Protection course. Moreover, our Club Welfare Officers (CWO) have enhanced Level 2 Safeguarding and “A Time to Listen – Every Child Matters” qualifications.
We follow the principles of common sense, compassion, caring, and the British Cycling “Safeguarding and Protecting Children” policies and procedures when working with our children. We are committed to the welfare and safety of our riders, and have a dedicated team of Club Welfare Officers to ensure these guidelines are applied and our children have a safe and happy Slipstreamers experience. All CWO matters are handled with the greatest of sensitivity and discretion, abiding by all the necessary protocols one would expect.
We also like encourage independence at the club, and as such make a point of motivating our Members to take control of their own safety by employing some very simple principles. We also host an annual “Safety Saturday” when we join forces with the Met Police Safer Transport Team and Hillingdon Council to bring children a morning of safety themed activities. Our members are taught about the dangers of large vehicles and not being visible, have the facility to mark their bikes, enjoy safety exercises led by our coaches, and some of them even enjoy going out on the road with Bikeability coaches provided by Hillingdon Council. A highlight of the session is being timed by the Met Police speed gun to see how fast they are actually cycling!
