Following the success of previous events in 2014 and 2015, Saturday 21st May 2016 was the date for the third annual Inter-Club Time Trial hosted by Hillingdon Slipstreamers. Once again, many clubs submitted riders to take part in one of the few Youth Only Time Trials – and made a great afternoon of races come alive. Read on to find out more…
A Bit About the Racing…
This year was a little bit different. Recent additions of link roads to Hillingdon Cycle Circuit now allows different configurations of circuits. This allowed us to have a new fast 10km Time Trial for the younger riders, whilst the older riders could still slog it out on the full 9.3mile race.
We held three races over the course of the day:
- Race 1: 10 years old and younger (18 riders)
- Race 2: 11,12 & 13 year old (15 riders)
- Race 3: 14,15 & 16 year old (15 riders)
Race 1 saw the following 10km results recorded:
- Boys: Finlay Hawker (18.09.1), Joe O’Brien (18.26.0), James Brown (18.53.5)
- Girls: Caitlin Loveless (21.21.2), Greta Carey (21.31.8), Electra Morris (26.34.1)
For Races 2 and 3, individual age awards were given, however the following 10 full lap times were recorded:
Race 2:
- Boys: Oliver Stockwell (22.48.3), Cameron Still (25.44.2), Jamie Whitcher (26.11.2)
- Girls: Jess Henning (27.42.6), Anastasia Vockic (28.21.1)
Race 3:
- Boys: Tom Durkin (23.26) Arthur Boulton (24.38.2), Joe McGuinnes (24.43.7)
- Girls: Savannah Hewson (24.32.9), Elizabeth Marvelly (25.22.6), Jemma Bowler (27.29.3)
Well done to everyone who took part – these events are a pleasure for us to host, and great to see so many young people excelling at this tough individual discipline.
Finally, A Few Words of Thanks from our Chairman, Alison Grant BEM…
“Not every volunteer can be at every event to help out. It is therefore vital that we have a wide range of volunteers efficient in many different area’s to help out when necessary. The inter club time trials was a case in point. It was wonderful to see some new names in different roles and how it helped the club in a time of need. We really need everyone to do something at some time to help the club. Which is really helping the children. Some events like our National event we hold, take months of planning, others we do on a fairly regular basis and we are able to ask and bring in extra helpers where needed. It doesn’t always require a huge amount of time, it doesn’t always require certificates and expertise. It does require a willingness to help out. To borrow a supermarket phrase, “Every little helps”. Extra special thanks go to everyone who gave up their time to help make this Inter-Club event a success – from sign-on, to keeping you all refreshed, to taking great photographs, and cleaning up after everyone leaves. It is so appreciated.”
And if you haven’t seen them yet, have a peek at the fantastic photographs from the event taken by a team of our very talented Volunteers Elisabeth and Isabelle, and Young Volunteers Elizabeth, Jemma and Kim.
Hope to see you back in 2017!
