On Sunday 15th February, a number of Slipstreamers made the trek down to Calshot Velodrome for an afternoon of training and fun in the only indoor banked velo in the south of England.
Tom Stringer, U12, was amongst the group and shares his experience:
“When I arrived at Calshot, I walked down the tunnel to the main velodrome and I started to ride my warm up, up on the track. Then we came off the track and then we were talked to by our coaches. We were split into groups and our group was the first to go up on the track. We first rode around as a group then we started to change at the front every half lap. After that session we had a rest and got ready for the next session.
Then the next session was the team pursuit. We had two teams on each side of the track and we would try to catch the other group on the other side of the track. Our next session was the flying lap. We rode as a group and then the first person flew off the front of the group, sprinting on the black line. The next session was the warm down we just rode at a steady pace you would think – but no we were all sprinting!
I have thoroughly enjoyed this experience in Calshot and I would recommend that you or your children would go – it is a mind blowing experience. The adrenalin is rushing through your bones!”
Thank you for your rider report Tom – sounds like you had a great time!
