British Cycling Performance Pathway – Club Clusters of Training (CCT’s)

Attention members aged 12 – 16 years who are already racing, or considering racing next session. British Cycling recently, in May, made some changes to their performance pathway development programme as part of the initiative to help young cyclists achieve the best chances of success at future Olympic Games. Click here to read about these changes. You may already be familiar with RSRs if you are 14+, but now the new Club Clusters of Training (CCT’s) initiative reaches out to younger riders from the age of 12, providing them with the opportunity to train and develop along this pathway from an earlier age.The first BC Central region CCT’s session will be held on Monday 27th October at the Palmer Park Sports Stadium in Reading, with signon commencing at 6.30pm and the session running fro 7pm – 9pm. Thereafter, sessions will run every Monday through to the 15th December, and again from the 12th January to the 30th March. Up to Christmas, the focus will be cyclo-cross, followed by road biking on the track after Christmas. For further details do click here. These sessions are all about developing your speed, endurance, strength and power – they will be physically demanding and you will work on speed endurance along with strength prior to Christmas, then explosive power post-Christmas. This is what a young bike racer needs! It is important to also note that these are workout sessions for ALL young riders, irrespective of your main discipline.

If you are already convinced and plan to attend:
  • You must be 12-16 years old, inclusive
  • You must be racing, or intending to race next season
  • You must be a BC member – if you aren’t one yet, email Asti who will talk you through the process to acquire membership and a race licence
  • You will need a CX bike, road bike with CX tyres, or a mountain bike – with lights good enough to see
  • You need to complete a consent form – click here to download this
  • You must be dressed appropriately for the conditions – if you are deemed not suitably dressed, you will not be allowed to take part
  • Ensure you have drinks and snacks to sustain you for 2 hours
  • Even if it’s wet, you will still ride. If the weather is too dangerous to ride outside, the session will be changed to rollers or turbo’s inside
If any Slipstreamers are interested in attending the sessions, but aren’t sure how it would benefit you, do please talk to Head Coach, Dave George and he will be happy to provide some guidance on this.
