Ho ho ho! December has arrived and oh goodness gracious where does the time fly…? Another year has gone by and once again it’s time to celebrate the successes of our members during 2017, say thank you to our wonderful volunteers, and of course, have a party to round it all off!
We have more awards than ever to hand out, so please do join us on Saturday 9th December 2017 ready to support your fellow Slipstreamers and have a good time! To be reminded of the 2016 winners, do click here.
Please note that there is NO regular cycle coaching on Saturday at all, but there is a lot of fun planned and we highly recommend you join us. Aside from the Club Champion awards, there are many other awards for Most Improved riders, your Volunteers are celebrated, and there are a whopping 30 Special Recognition Awards to hand out this year – who knows, it could be you. So read on to find out what to expect, event timings, and what you need to do and bring along…
Earlier Than Usual Sign-On…
Sign-on will commence at 8.45am and close at 9.10am, as we will need to start promptly at 9.15am. There is NO payment required for the Saturday session, but for health and safety reasons and in the event of a fire drill, you must all still sign on. Parents please help us ensure this happens. After you have signed on remain out of the main clubhouse whilst Chief Elf and the crew of Elf Volunteers are setting up for the awards. Wrap up warm and ensure you are dressed comfortably (there is no regular coaching so we don’t recommend coming dressed in cycling kit).
Kicking Off The Awards Presentation…
The first awards – announcement of the highly anticipated Club Champions – will start being handed out promptly at 9.15am inside the main clubhouse, so make sure you are signed on and seated by then. We have a LOT to hand out, so please help us by ensuring you are on time and being respectful to those presenting and receiving the awards; and of course paying attention as it could be your name that is being called out. We won’t have time to wait or look for you anyone, so be sure to pay attention so as not to miss your opportunity to stand on the podium and shine!
Food, Glorious Food…
As usual, the North Pole Catering Crew will be laying out a delightfully nutritious spread of snacks, nibbles and treats for our Members (children, not parents!) to quell ravenous appetites and ensure there are no hunger-driven tantrums! If any industrious parents fancy baking a few nibbles and treats for the party, do feel free to do so! Food will be served around 11am, so make sure you have a good breakfast to keep you going until then!
Fun & Games…
Once all the awards have been handed out, there will plenty to keep you entertained throughout the morning until our special guest from the North Poles makes an entrance. There will be bike jenga, skills games, sack races, limbo, tug of war and all manner of challenges outside at the front of the clubhouse – if you want to bring along your mountain bike so you can join in, do! The now legendary Wrighty’s 10p game will also be played, so bring a few 10p coins with you as well – if this is your first Xmas party with us, it will all make sense on Saturday!
Welcoming Santa Claus and Elves…
Make no mistake, we do our best to host a good party, and what better way to do that then invite the most magical and important guest of the season to brighten things up! Santa Claus will be taking the Rudolph and the Reindeer crew on a pre-Xmas sleigh test flight, and will be making a pit stop at our party (shhh, don’t tell non-Slipstreamers!).
We have it on VERY good authority that there will be a few sacks filled with presents to be handed out, so listen out for your name when Santa and the Elves start calling them out! As usual, Santa welcomes contributions to the Santa Sack for each child, so parents do read your newsletter (due out on Thursday) for further instructions…
And Finally…
Feel free to dress up your helmet or yourselves in festive attire – we may dish out a few spot prizes for the most festive amongst you! Do remember to ensure no decorations you use will come off or impair your vision while you are playing games or cycling about – safety first!
Our aim is to wrap things up around 12ish so we can tidy up and be out of the clubhouse in good time for the afternoon adult races. Volunteer helpers to clear up will be most welcomed! If anyone has any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out, otherwise we will see you all on Saturday ready to have a great time.
