2016 BC Central Region Youth Track Team
In 2016 Central Region will again be supporting a youth team of riders to represent the region at the British Cycling Inter-Regional Track Championships to be held at the Wales National Velodrome, Newport on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September 2016.
The team management for 2016 will be:

The team:
- We will select 4 males and 4 female athletes, plus non-travelling reserves (unless otherwise directed by the event organisation)
- Selection is open to Youth A and Youth B riders (born 2000 – 2003)
- Riders must ensure that they have Central Region on their British Cycling license.
Selection criteria:
Selection will be made by the team manager and team coach, based on the following criteria that shall constitute “performance” for the purpose of selection:
- Bike handling ability, group skills, bunch positioning
- Ability to time efforts and attacks effectively and make repeated efforts
- Tactical awareness
- Finish position
- Self sufficiency
- Commitment to the Team
The selection criteria as stated above should not be considered to be ranked in any particular order. Older riders will not necessarily be given priority for selection, but the ability and stamina to perform well over 2 days of competition will be taken into account, as will the ability of the chosen team to function effectively together.
There will not be any specific designated selection races. The Central Region covers a significant geographical area and it is understood that prospective team members may not all compete in the same regional omnium series.
Selection will not be based on any accumulated results or points system or BC National rankings.
Observed races:
The team manager or team coach will hope to be observing riders at the following events:
- National Youth Track Omniums (Wales / South) at: Bournemouth 9 April 2016; Cardiff 24 April 2016; Reading 7 May 2016; Newport 14 May 2016.
- National Youth Track Omniums (London area) at: Lee Valley 23 April 2016; Welwyn 7 May 2016; Preston Park 8 May 2016; Herne Hill 15 May 2016
In addition we are planning to enter teams for the Herne Hill Youth team event on Sunday 12 June and the Maindy Flyers Youth team event on Saturday 18 June. Further details will be given in due course. Selection for one or both of these additional events will not guarantee selection for the Inter-Regional Championships and you will not be required to participate in either or both events to be considered for selection for the Inter-Regional Championships.
The team manager and team coach may also take into consideration performances at events other than regional omniums and the team events specified above. It will be the responsibility of the rider to supply them with details of any performances that they wish to be considered as evidence supporting selection.

When you register you will be asked to confirm which National Youth Omnium series you expect to compete in this year and whether you expect to be available for the team events on 12 June and 18 June.

Please note: Only riders who register their interest by 23 April will be considered for selection. Communication following registration between the team manager and / or team coach and the rider will be by email. Emails will be sent to the riders with a copy to the parent. Riders are expected to reply to emails themselves and in a timely manner.
