It is with greatest sadness that Slipstreamers has come to learn of the tragic death of an ex-member, Will Houghton, member number 699. He died at the end of January 2016 whilst out on a training ride from his university at Portsmouth. He was hit from behind by a car. He was aged just 20 years old. It is heartbreaking and so very wrong.
Will was not with us long as he was spotted as a talent worth nurturing by one of our ex coaches. Both Scott, the coach, and Will lived over an hour’s drive from the circuit and so they both felt he could develop his skills closer to home. Scott has written a very moving piece about Will here.
Will was with the club for just over a year in 2010/2011 and showed huge potential and a real love and passion for the sport of cycling. He was a roadie through and through. He was a very committed young man who found his passion for cycling at Slipstreamers after trying other sports. As a club we will remember his huge smile and willingness to learn. After leaving Slipstreamers, Will was often seen at the circuit racing at various events, including the Imperial Winter Series. So never very far away from where he started his love and passion for cycling.
Our thoughts are very much with his family and friends.
