Many of you will recall Brunel University’s College of Health and Life Sciences, Division of Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences reached out to Slipstreamers to help out with their study on bicycle fit for children. Members who got involved found the experience incredibly useful, and now another opportunity has arisen for Slipstreamers to support research to improve the cycling experience for everyone! As previously, the Club has validated the request with Brunel, met PhD student João Greca, and can confirm the research team involved are all DBS checked and all studies undertaken by this department are approved by the University Research Ethics Committee.

We are inviting children aged between 8 and 12 to do a short, easy, indoor cycling and walking activity. This research study will take place at the biomechanics laboratory at Brunel University. The aim of this study is to assess the effect of body mass on the knee joint in children and to find the most suitable physical activity type for children. In order to assess this, children will cycle on a stationary bicycle and walk on a treadmill for approximately 10 minutes each.
If you and your child want to take part, you will visit the biomechanics laboratory on one occasion lasting approximately 90 minutes. You will be able to choose the time that suits your schedule best including evenings and weekends. If you are interested in science and would like to know more about the most suitable physical activity for children, please see the contact details below.
