On the 18th February, British Cycling organised an advanced mountain biking skills session at Aston Hill, led by BC Coaches and including Coach Ian Warby of  Firecrest MTB. A number of Slipstreamers attended what was a rather muddy but super fun session. But don’t take our word for it…

Enjoy the following report by  Slipstreamer “Mudslinger” Yasmin Basit:

“I was accepted onto this training and it was great to have my new full suspension mountain bike with me on only its second outing. Aston Hill is at the highest point of the Chilterns and is famously steep and technical. It has several top grade 4x and downhill runs used by national mountain bikers. In my group of 8, I was both the youngest there, and the only girl!

In the morning the coaches gave us training and practice in variety of important skills. These included cornering and bomb-holes. After this we cycled to a different part of the woods where we found a table-top jump to try out. It was very muddy here and so had to work hard to get momentum for the jumps but we all still had loads of fun.

In the afternoon we changed coaches and concentrated more on downhill fast tracks. It was great to get down fast and steep but then the inevitable climb back up was torture on the legs. Even so, it was amazing fun.

At the end of the day our group found a berm course to practice some of our advanced cross-country skills.”

Thank you for your excellent summary Yasmin – it sounds like you had an epic time!
