Hot off the press, we are very pleased to announce that Alex Jones, one of our U16 members and a British Cycling Young Volunteer, has been selected to be one of ten cyclists in the country that will be attending the BC/ Youth Sport Trust Talent Camp in December this year. Alex was selected by BC’s talent coaches against some really strict criteria, and we are very proud to have another Slipstreamer achieve such excellence in their cycling. The camp will be held in Longborough over 4 days, and as the organisers explain: “The four day multi-sport event offers England’s most talented 14-18 year olds insight into the world of performance sport and the harsh reality of the demands and commitment required to be the best in their chosen sport. Six am starts, two intense training sessions a day, a series of challenging workshops led by leading sports psychologists and athlete mentors and nutritious but basic meals, the athletes are not in for an easy ride. The young people who attend are selected by their National Governing Body because of the talent they have shown and the commitment to develop“. BC’s Regional Pathway Performance Coach also commented, ‘I’ve looked at feedback from RSRs, race observations I made and knowledge of the riders and results – and made the decision with all of this in mind‘. Alex said: ‘There was no application process so it was completely unexpected – it’s a great, much appreciated opportunity that I will make the most of’. |
Well done Alex – we are all very proud of you, and look forward to hearing all your experience at the Talent Camp when you get back!
