At the weekend, on Saturday 13th September, Slipstreamers attended the GHS Time Trial Final in the Midlands.
This is a National competition run by the Cycling Time Trials Council for riders under 17 years of age. We were represented by Josh Murphy, Niall Dawkins, Sam Henning, Josh Copley and Ieuan Woods. The final contained spaces for 180 riders between 12 and 17 years old, who had qualified in regional events held across the country. In July, the above 5 qualified in regional heats, alongside Savannah and Peter Hewson who were unable to make the final. The competition is a 10 mile time trial, held on the open road, on a fairly sporting road.
The following tremendous result were recorded for our riders:
- Sam Henning, joint 1st with a time of 21:34, and fastest 15 year old overall!
- 32nd Josh Copley with 23:20, 3rd 14-year-old boy
- 48th Josh Murphy with 24:02
- 73rd Ieuan Woods with 24:46, 4th 13-year-old-boy
- 93rd Niall Dawkins with 26:07
Sam shared the 1st place with 16 year old George Evans of Mid Shropshire Wheelers.
It is worth noting that Sam’s average speed over 10 miles was 27.821mph. Josh Copley also noted that his own result was only 1 second off of the 2nd 14-year-old, and just 7 seconds off of 1st place for his age group. We lose Sam from Slipstreamers at the end of this year – but he will still be able to defend the title of “National Schools Champion” next year, and along with Josh Murphy will also be eligible to compete in the British National Junior Championship.
All the lads put in exceptional efforts – and we look forward to seeing your future results throughout your Time Trialling careers! Well done!
