Club Championship Dates
Yes members, it’s almost time for our annual Club Championships, in which you get to test your cycling prowess in 5 categories [Skills, Time Trials, Road, MTB, Track], and compete for some fantastic prizes, including the much coveted Club Champs jerseys for your respective age group! For those of you who are new to the club, this is open to ALL members, who are encouraged to take part; but it is not compulsory if you don’t want to compete, and not all categories have to be entered if you do wish to join in. However, it is worth mentioning that all the results are collated and added up, and those with most points at the end of the five events are deemed to be Club Champions – i.e. 6 boys and 6 girls. Thus, if you do want to aim for this, the more events entered the better your chances of becoming Club Champion!
2014 Club Championships Categories and Dates:
- Skills, Time Trials (Part I): 27th September [see notes]
- Time Trials (Part II): 11th October [see notes]
- Road Races: 18th October
- Mountain Biking: 8th November
- Track: 22nd November [see notes]
A Few Important Notes – Please Read Carefully:
- Our annual Family Fun Day is scheduled for the 27th September, where we will have the full day at our disposal. Please keep this day free as we will be holding both the Skills AND Time Trials categories of the Club Champs on this day. If you cannot attend on the 27th, you will not get another opportunity to do the Skills category, BUT, you will be able to do the Time Trial category on the 11th October. However, read on…
- If you wish to take part in the Club Champs Time Trial category, and have missed the 27th September date, you may take part on the 11th October. The following rules/ caveats apply:
- The Club Champs TT will be done during the early session so you will have to be signed on and ready to ride by 8.25am sharp!
- If you did the Club Champs TT on the 27th September, you may not re-do this on the 11th October – you only get one go.
- The Track category scheduled for the 22nd November is to be held in Calshot. The following rules/ caveats apply:
- For safety and track bike size reasons, U6’s are not permitted to take part in this category. Only age categories U8 upwards may take part.
- You may only ride the session on the 22nd if you have attended a Calshot session run by Steve May prior to this date, AND have been told you have met the required standard to ride Calshot by Steve May. If in doubt, just ask.
- As per any attendance at Calshot, you MUST register in advance. No exceptions.
And finally, if you are unable to attend any of the Club Champs on the dates listed above, aside from the TT, this cannot be made up on another date. However, please don’t let this deter you from taking part in what you can, as Club Championships are great fun and well worth it; and we hope to see as many of you as possible competing! After the final Club Champs event, your volunteers will be crunching the numbers and sorting out medals and trophies, and our 12 Club Champions will be announced during our Christmas Party as part of the annual prize presentations for the year.
Reminders will follow prior to each event, but do note these dates on your wall calendars/ electronic diaries/ memory banks! If you have any questions, feel free to email us or come and talk to your coaches or any of the club volunteers. Good luck everyone!
